Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Projects

an exhibition of signed posters and video materials showcasing projects by both artists

The exhibition Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Projects presents sixteen projects by the artists and their early works. It begins with the transition from Christo’s early works created in his studio in Paris (wrapped boxes and bottles) and New York (storefronts) to the monumental projects realized in urban environments or in nature. It includes a video interview with Christo about his early works by Georgi Lozanov and director Stoyan Radev. The exhibition presents the monumental projects of the artists chronologically with posters, texts, a timeline, and a geographical map. Among the projects are Wall of Oil Barrels – The Iron Curtain, Valley Curtain, Wrapped Reichstag, The Umbrellas, Wrapped Trees, and The Pont Neuf Wrapped. The latest realized project, The Floating Piers, is presented with video footage by Nedialko Danov from the film Bridge to Christo, made by Evgeniya Atanasova-Teneva for the Bulgarian National Television. The exhibition concludes with the ongoing project The Mastaba, which Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s team is currently working on. The project is planned for the desert near Abu Dhabi and will be the largest sculpture in the world.

Born in Gabrovo

a documentary exhibition about the life of the Yavashev family in the city of Gabrovo and young Christo’s early steps in art

The exhibition Born in Gabrovo is a kind of “time capsule” that takes the visitor through the story told by Evgeniya Atanasova-Teneva. It presents the life of the Yavashev family – Tsveta and Vladimir and their three sons in Gabrovo and traces the early years of young Christo in Gabrovo. Displayed are personal photos provided by members of the Yavashev family, as well as documents from the State Archives in Gabrovo and other institutions. The exhibition also showcases old paintings and cherished mementos from friends and classmates. It recalls the time of Gabrovo’s turbulent industrial development and the historical turning points that marked the fate of the city and its residents in the middle of the last century.

The exhibitions were supplemented by film screenings about Christo and Jeanne-Claude and their projects and workshops for kids.
